Ammonia Code of Practice

The Ammonia Code of Practice, launched by the Fertilizer Safety & Security Council, applies to all agri-retail facilities in Canada that store or retail anhydrous ammonia Agri-retail sites in Canada will need to be fully compliant with the standards outlined in the Ammonia Code of Practice by the end of 2010.

The ammonia fertilizer industry is facing increasing security and public safety concerns as well as legal and regulatory pressures to demonstrate that the risks arising from ammonia are minimized. Under direction from CFI's Board of Directors, the Ammonia Code of Practice was drafted by members of the Fertilizer Safety & Security Council including fertilizer manufacturers, distributors and agri-retailers. In addition to managing safety and security risks, the code will demonstrate to government and the public that the industry is taking necessary steps to safeguard Canadian communities.
